|
Hyochang Park was originally a historic park
with the tombs of Crown Prince Moonhyo, Euibin
Seong, his mother and Princess Yeongon, her daughter.
During the Japanese war, the name was changed
to Hyochang Park in an attempt by theJapanese
to destroy historical relics by amending park
laws.
These tombs were transferred to Seoneung during
the 1945 Liberation of Korea, and the tombs of
the VIPs of the provisional government, including
Baekbum Kim Ku, Lee Dong-nyeong and Jo Seong-hwan,
and three righteous men, Lee Bong-chang, Yun Bong-gil
and Baek Jeong-gi who risked their lives in oppositional
to the Japanese government during the occupation.
This area has been preserved as a place for rest
and relaxation and an educational site for Korean
history.
