Seoul
Fortress was
built in 1395 for the defense of Seoul after King
Taejo transferred the capital to Hanyang (Seoul)
in 1394. King Taejo established 'Doseong Dochuk
Dogam'(Office for fortress building) and mobilized
200,000 people to build the fortress. Its circumference
is around 17km.
Seoul Fortress was built with stone and soil in
such a short period of time that it had infirm
spots.
It was rebuilt with rectangular stone through
the mobilization of 320,000 people in 1442 (the
4th year of King Sejong).
Seoul Fortress is a valuable cultural inheritance
that shows the patriotism of our ancestors.
